Licence
Rust Studio is free to use and closed source. This is the agreement you accept when you install it.
RUST STUDIO - END USER LICENCE AGREEMENT
DRAFT FOR LEGAL REVIEW. Have a lawyer check this text, and the licensor name and governing law below, before you publish it.
Rust Studio is free to use. It is not open source: the source code is not published and you do not receive it.
1. Who this is from
"Licensor" means Fowlguard INC. "Rust Studio" means the program installed by this setup, its documentation and its
bundled templates. "You" means the person or organisation installing or using it.
2. What you may do (free of charge)
a. Install and use Rust Studio on any number of your own computers, for personal, educational, commercial or any other
lawful purpose, without paying the Licensor.
b. Use Rust Studio to write, build, test and sell your own software. You own everything you create with it. Code that
Rust Studio generates for you from its project templates (for example a new project's source files) may be used
in your software under the licences stated inside each template.
c. Make copies of the unmodified setup program for your own use and for backup, and give copies to colleagues inside
your own organisation.
3. What you may not do
a. Sell, rent, lease or sublicense Rust Studio, or charge others for access to it.
b. Publish or redistribute Rust Studio or its setup program to the public (for example on download sites or in
package repositories) without the Licensor's written permission. Link to the official download page instead.
c. Reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble Rust Studio, or try to obtain its source code, except where the law
allows this despite this restriction.
d. Remove or change the copyright, trademark or licence notices in Rust Studio.
e. Use Rust Studio in a way that breaks the law or the rights of others.
4. Third-party components
Rust Studio contains open-source libraries. They remain under their own licences, which are listed in the file
THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt installed next to the program. Nothing in this agreement limits your rights under those licences.
Rust Studio runs tools you have installed, such as the Rust toolchain, rust-analyzer, cargo, the .NET SDK and Node.js.
Those tools are not part of Rust Studio and are licensed by their own publishers.
5. Online features
Rust Studio does not collect usage data and has no telemetry. It connects to the internet only when you ask it to:
to search and download NuGet packages from nuget.org, to download crates and packages through cargo and npm, and to
send your prompts and the code or context you attach to the AI provider you have configured (for example Anthropic,
OpenAI, Google or a server of your own). What those services do with your data is governed by their terms and
privacy policies, not by this agreement. AI keys you enter are stored in a file in your user settings folder.
6. Your files
Rust Studio changes files only as you direct it: saving, creating projects, applying AI suggestions you accept,
formatting, and the Cargo Cleaner, which deletes only the cargo build folders and caches you tick after a confirmation.
Keep backups of anything important.
7. Ownership
The Licensor and its suppliers own Rust Studio and all rights in it, other than your rights under this agreement and
the rights of the owners of the third-party components. The names "Rust Studio" and its logo are the Licensor's.
Rust Studio is independent software. It is not made by, affiliated with or endorsed by Microsoft, and it is not
Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code.
8. No warranty
RUST STUDIO IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF
MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. AI SUGGESTIONS AND GENERATED CODE CAN BE WRONG:
REVIEW THEM BEFORE YOU USE THEM.
9. Limit of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, THE LICENSOR IS NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL
DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST DATA, PROFITS OR BUSINESS, ARISING FROM THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE RUST STUDIO. BECAUSE RUST
STUDIO IS FREE, THE LICENSOR'S TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM IS LIMITED TO ZERO, WHERE THE LAW PERMITS. NOTHING HERE
EXCLUDES LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE EXCLUDED BY LAW.
10. Ending this agreement
This agreement lasts until it ends. It ends automatically if you break it. You can end it at any time by
uninstalling Rust Studio and deleting your copies. The Licensor may stop offering Rust Studio or change its terms for
future versions; versions you already have stay licensed under the terms you accepted.
11. General
If a part of this agreement is unenforceable, the rest stays in force. This agreement is the whole agreement about
Rust Studio between you and the Licensor. It is governed by the laws of [GOVERNING LAW / JURISDICTION - to be
completed before publishing], and the courts of that place can hear disputes about it.
By choosing "I Agree" in the setup, or by using Rust Studio, you accept this agreement.
