Rust Studio/Privacy
Privacy notice
Rust Studio has no ads and no tracking cookies, and it does not look at your code. This page lists everything the website and the app do store or send, so there are no surprises.
Who is responsible
Rust Studio and this website are provided by FOWLGUARD, Inc. To ask about your data, use the feedback form on this site and say what you want to know or have deleted.
On the website
The site sets no tracking or advertising cookies. It remembers your light or dark choice, and that you closed the cookie notice, in your browser only.
- Downloads are counted so we know how many people use each version and system. We keep the file, the system, the version, the time, your IP address and the country, region and city it maps to (looked up on our own server, never sent to another service), plus a scrambled (salted hash) value of the address to tell visitors apart. This is used only to see where Rust Studio is used and to run the service; you can ask for it to be deleted.
- The newsletter stores your e-mail address, the date, and the system you were using when you signed up. We first send a link and add you only after you press the confirm button. Every e-mail has an unsubscribe link. Ask us and we delete your address.
- Accounts: to sign up we ask for your e-mail address, first and last name, date of birth, country, state and city, and you confirm the address with a 6-digit code we e-mail you. We store those details and the time of your last sign-in, and set a sign-in cookie in your browser. The codes are kept only as a scrambled value and expire after 10 minutes. You must be at least 13. Delete your account on the account page, or ask us, and we remove the record.
- Feedback stores your message, the kind of feedback, the e-mail if you typed one and, if you leave the box ticked, your Rust Studio version and system. Your address is kept only as a scrambled value, to stop floods.
In the app
Apart from the install count and the update check below, Rust Studio sends nothing on its own. Features that use the internet do so only when you use them: your chosen AI provider, nuget.org, and the downloads cargo and npm make.
- Install count: the first time Rust Studio runs it makes up a random install id (not linked to you or your computer). It tells ruststudio.org that id, its version, your system and processor type when it starts and about once a day, so we can count installs and see how many are still in use. We do not store your address with it.
- Sign-up after 7 days: Rust Studio can be used for 7 days from its first start. After that it asks you to sign up on ruststudio.org; your account is then linked to that install id so the app knows you have signed up.
- Update check: once a day Rust Studio asks ruststudio.org for the latest version. The request carries your version and system so the answer fits; the server does not record it. Switch it off in Settings.
- Crash reports are sent only after Rust Studio has shown you the report and you agreed.
